Bob Cupp (1939–2016) was an accomplished American golf course designer who left his mark on the field through decades of diverse work across North America and beyond. He served as president of the American Society of Golf Course Architects in 2012–13, reflecting the esteem in which his peers held him.
Among his notable collaborations was the Founders Course at Greystone Golf & Country Club in Hoover, Alabama, which he designed with PGA Tour player Hubert Green. Opened in 1991, it became so admired that players, officials, and media voted it the number one stop on the senior tour for two consecutive years during the Bruno's Memorial Classic era. Since 2016, it has hosted the Regions Tradition, a senior major championship.
Cupp's portfolio spanned a wide range of settings and styles. His designs included Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club (Witch Hollow and Ghost Creek courses) in Oregon, Crosswater at Sunriver Resort, Beacon Hall Golf Club in Ontario, Old North State at Old Town Club in North Carolina, and Peachtree Golf Club in Atlanta. He worked on resort projects like Starr Pass in Arizona, private clubs such as Old Waverly in Mississippi, and renovation work at historic sites including The Greenbrier's Meadows Course.
