OLD WAVERLY GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 West Point, MS, USA
Designed by Bob Cupp, Jerry Pate
Old Waverly Golf Club, nestled in the rolling hills of West Point, Mississippi, is a testament to Southern hospitality and championship-caliber golf. More than just a golf course, Old Waverly is a club that has a familial bond between members.
Designed in the Golden Age spirit by Bob Cupp and Jerry Pate, Old Waverly unfolds across a landscape of meticulously manicured Bermuda grass fairways, dotted with mature pines and native hardwoods. The course favors a strategic approach, rewarding thoughtful shot-making over brute force. Errant shots can find trouble lurking in the water hazards that meander throughout the property. While the course can play long from the tips, it's the challenging green complexes, with subtle undulations and strategic bunkering, that truly define the Old Waverly experience.
In 1999, Old Waverly served as the host venue for the U.S. Women's Open. The championship saw Juli Inkster capturing the title, forever etching the course in the annals of golf history.
While perhaps not internationally renowned, Old Waverly maintains a strong regional reputation as a challenging and rewarding course, prized by its dedicated membership. Known for its welcoming atmosphere and southern charm, Old Waverly has become a second home to its members, where bonds are strengthened over competitive rounds and post-game gatherings.
Reviews
Wonderful classic Southern venue. I wish I had seen it in drier conditions and it may be rated higher, but it’s a fantastic contrast from Mossy Oak in all the best ways. Playing at Old Waverly feels like playing as an important member. Great 1-2 punch in the middle of Mississippi.
Pristine greens that were about as fast as I’ve ever played
