NORTHRIVER YACHT CLUB
🇺🇸 Tuscaloosa, AL, USA
Designed by Bob Cupp, Gary Player

NorthRiver occupies rolling terrain along the Black Warrior River north of Tuscaloosa, where the landscape transitions from the piedmont to the coastal plain. The course was designed by Gary Player and Bob Cupp and opened in the mid-1990s as part of a residential yacht club community that combines golf with extensive marina facilities on the river. The design takes advantage of the property's natural elevation changes and water features, routing holes through corridors of mature hardwoods and pines while incorporating views of the river and its tributaries.
The layout reflects Player's international design philosophy adapted to Alabama topography, with strategic bunkering and greens that reward precise approach play. Several holes play along or across water, and the routing makes use of the property's creeks and wetlands as both hazards and scenic elements. The course serves as the centerpiece of a private club that emphasizes both golf and boating, with members having access to deep-water slips and river access in addition to the golf facilities.
NorthRiver functions as a regional amenity in the Tuscaloosa area, which is better known for the University of Alabama and its football tradition than for golf. The club's dual focus on golf and yachting distinguishes it within the state's private club landscape, appealing to members who value both pursuits in a setting that combines inland golf with navigable river access.
