REYNOLDS PLANTATION
🇺🇸 Greensboro, GA, USA
Designed by Bob Cupp

The Plantation Course at Reynolds Lake Oconee (formerly Reynolds Plantation) opened in 1988 as Bob Cupp's first design for the property and the original championship layout that established the resort community on the shores of Lake Oconee. Cupp, who worked extensively with Jack Nicklaus before launching his solo career, routed the course through rolling Georgia Piedmont terrain with significant elevation changes and incorporated the lake into play on several holes. The design reflects Cupp's architectural philosophy of creating strategic variety and using the natural topography to define playing corridors.
The course features a traditional parkland character with tree-lined fairways moving through mature hardwoods and pines. The routing takes advantage of the property's elevation, with several holes playing uphill or downhill and offering views across the lake and surrounding landscape. Water comes into play on multiple holes, both from Lake Oconee itself and from internal ponds and creeks that affect shot strategy. The green complexes show Cupp's attention to contouring and approach angles, with undulation that rewards precise iron play.
The Plantation Course has served as the foundation of what became a multi-course destination, with Reynolds later adding designs by other prominent architects. The layout measures over 7,000 yards from the championship tees and has hosted various regional amateur events. The course remains a centerpiece of the Reynolds Lake Oconee community, which includes residential development, lodging, and dining facilities serving members and resort guests.
