Liberty National Golf Club is a monument to modern golf ambition, carved from a former industrial landscape with sweeping views of the Manhattan skyline and the Statue of Liberty. A feat of engineering, the course overcame contaminated swampland to deliver a bold, championship-caliber experience.
Architects Bob Cupp and Tom Kite, originally envisioned the routing, but Paul Fireman spearheaded the redesign. The course is a modern links-style layout that favors long hitters who can also shape their shots. The fairways are wide, but strategically bunkered, demanding thoughtful approaches to the undulating greens. This is a course where power is rewarded, but precision is paramount, as wayward drives often find unforgiving fescue and strategically placed water hazards.
Liberty National has quickly established itself as a stage for elite competition, having hosted The Barclays (now The Northern Trust) multiple times, the Presidents Cup, and a number of LPGA events. The club caters to a high-profile membership, attracting leaders in business, finance, and entertainment. It is as known for its exclusivity and modern clubhouse as it is for its challenging layout and notable tournament history.
Adding a touch of whimsy to its serious golfing environment, Liberty National is known for its "Cannonball," a signature cocktail served at the clubhouse, and a tongue-in-cheek nod to the course's dramatic transformation from an industrial site. This juxtaposition of grit and glamour is a defining characteristic of the Liberty National experience.
Reviews
Awesome course, awesome views.
Great views of the Statue of Liberty and NYC. Certainly gets way more disrespect than it deserves. Not a natural look, but course is in great shape and still has a good variety of holes. Finishing stretch of 14-18 is awesome.
