OAK RIDGE COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Hopkins, MN, USA
Designed by Garrett Gill, William D. Clark

Oak Ridge Country Club sits in Hopkins, a western suburb of Minneapolis, where it has served the local golfing community since the mid-twentieth century. The course was designed by William D. Clark, a regional architect active in the Upper Midwest during the post-war era, with later renovation work by Garrett Gill. The layout reflects the rolling terrain characteristic of the Minnesota River valley region, with mature tree-lined fairways and modest elevation changes that add strategic interest without severe demands on walking players.
The course occupies land that transitions between suburban development and preserved natural areas, offering a parkland setting typical of established Twin Cities clubs. Routing takes advantage of the property's natural contours, with holes that move through corridors of oak and other hardwoods. Water features appear on several holes, drawing from the wetland systems common to this part of the metro area. The design emphasizes accuracy over distance, rewarding players who can shape shots and manage position rather than simply overpower the layout.
Oak Ridge functions as a traditional member-owned club, hosting regular club competitions and serving as a venue for Minnesota Golf Association events and local amateur tournaments. The clubhouse and facilities support year-round member activity, important in a climate where the golf season runs roughly from April through October. The course represents a solid example of mid-century club design adapted to the Minnesota landscape, maintaining its relevance through periodic updates while preserving the character of its original routing.
Reviews
No place to hide at ORCC. This course will tell you exactly where your game is via a battery of the same repetitive questions which are: can you hit this fairway? Can you control your approach to be on the right side of the pin? Can you remain patient throughout the round? And those questions matter because; you have to control spin, plying from the rough is a death sentence. You have to be on the right side of the hole because 3-putting is easy at ORCC and you have to remain patient, because there are only 2 par 5s and the short holes are not to be trifled with. One of the best rounds I’ve ever seen in my life was a former U.S. Am winner shooting 66 at ORCC which felt like watching a 60. Not everyone is built for this place, but everyone will find it to be a treat.
Fun design and well conditioned. Course gets a little cramped in spots, but well thought out use of the space. Club overall seems great.
Overhated, underrated, top 10 in state, yeah I said it, thx.
Possibly the most underrated course in the state since their renovation a few years ago. Always in incredible condition, great land, a significant challenge from the tips. They just seem to do the little things right.
