South Course
Rockville, MD, USA

South at Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Maryland, stands as a testament to strategic, rather than overwhelming, design. Fashioned in the mid-century era, its parkland routing unfolds over subtly rolling terrain punctuated by mature hardwoods. The course doesn't overpower with length but challenges with thoughtful bunkering and greens that subtly shift breaks based on location to the surrounding topography. It often favors a player who can shape the ball right-to-left, particularly on several demanding doglegs. Originally conceived by Alfred Tull, who's name isn't necessarily a household name, it's been thoughtfully updated over the years to meet the demands of the modern game. The results yielded an accessible and challenging experience for all levels of play. While not a regular stop on the professional tour, Woodmont has held its share of high-level amateur events, quietly solidifying its place among the respected courses in the Mid-Atlantic region. It distinguishes itself as a club deeply woven into the fabric of the local community, where golf is often secondary to the connections forged amongst members. The club, in keeping with the tight knit community, is known locally for its excellent crab cakes, a post-round tradition as cherished as a birdie on the finishing hole.

My favorite free side bunkering of any course I’ve played. Very fun course while also fairly difficult. Fast greens. Perfect fairways and tee boxes. Refreshment stations on almost every hole.
Front and back nine are vastly different from eachother. Both great layouts and fun. Challenging course, but super fun!
