Fresh of some renovations Paxon was upgraded in a few ways. A brand new clubhouse, lots of tree removal, and plenty of other fixes to a longtime Philly public golf staple. The clubhouse and facilities are very solid for a public track and the tree removal helps bring the course into the modern strategic era. The course feels more open and it’s extremely noticeable on the first hole. The course has strong green complexes and some really fun quirks such as the straight downhill 17th. The only thing lacking is length. 5700 from the tips as a par 71 leaves a lot to be desired. You can play this course with 4 clubs. Every course doesn’t need to be a stern test but I find courses that are overly short with no real defenses to actually hurt its score. It’s a great course for beginners and a very fun course to see how many birdies you can make in a day. It has really good bones and is usually kept in good shape. The routing isn’t winning any awards but it has enough quirk and real holes to keep players engaged. If you’re just getting into golf, a casual player, or looking for a fun track to play a scramble at it…. Paxon hollow is the place for you.
