Incredible course. If they named the 9’s it’d be Links & Forest. Greens are magnificent but deadly - without a caddy you are toast. Have to know where to miss on each approach

This course is ridiculously tight with undulating fairways that are punishing to great shots. They put us out directly behind an outing so our round took well over 5 hours.

Black Oak is a tough mountain style course. Usually kept in decent shape. Layout is very unique. Targets are pretty small which makes hitting it straight a must. Holes 13-18 are different from the rest of the course and the best stretch.

Very cool course that starts in the trees for 3 holes before opening up the rest of the way. Very hilly course with some very cool views. Par 5 9th and Par 3 17th are the best holes in my opinion.

Can see right away why it’s rated the best public in NJ. Great pro shop. Course is challenging but fair. Course is always in great condition. It’s on the pricier side but well worth the money if you want to treat yourself for the day.

How we rank

This ranking uses each golfer’s scenery rating, on a 0.5–5 scale. Scenery is the scenery score golfers give when they log a round. Every golfer counts once per course: repeat rounds are averaged first, then the course score is the average across golfers. A course needs scenery ratings from at least 5 different golfers. Ties go to the course with more golfers, then the higher Course Vaults score. Only open courses with a published Course Vaults score (at least 5 explicit ratings) are eligible, and a page is published only when at least 5 courses qualify. City pages include courses within about 25 miles of Sparta, so nearby suburbs can appear. Rankings refresh about hourly.
