Zaharias/Jones Course
Plymouth, MA, USA

Crosswinds Golf Club in Plymouth, Massachusetts features two eighteen-hole layouts designed by Dr. Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry, named Zaharias and Jones in honor of golf legends Babe Zaharias and Bobby Jones. The facility opened in the late 1990s as part of a daily-fee complex serving the South Shore region, roughly forty miles southeast of Boston. The property occupies rolling terrain characteristic of southeastern Massachusetts, with natural elevation changes, native grasses, and stands of pine and hardwood that frame the fairways. The Hurdzan-Fry partnership is known for strategic routing that emphasizes playability across skill levels while incorporating environmental sensitivity. At Crosswinds, both courses navigate the site's topography with a mix of open and tree-lined holes, presenting varied angles and shot values. Water features and bunker complexes come into play on several holes, and the design encourages ground-game options alongside aerial approaches. The layouts share practice facilities and a clubhouse that serves both daily-fee and outing traffic. Plymouth's coastal proximity means the courses experience typical New England seasonal conditions, with firm turf in summer and wind that can influence play, particularly on more exposed holes. The dual-course setup allows the facility to accommodate high volumes of play while maintaining conditioning standards. Crosswinds serves both local golfers and visitors exploring the historic Plymouth area, offering accessible championship-length golf in a region with limited public options of comparable scale.

Pleasantly surprised with Crosswinds in Plymouth, MA, a 27-hole public facility designed by Hurdzan/Fry southeast of Boston. I played the Zaharias & Jones nines, which both had more undulation & shot variety than I expected. While it was a bit slow, at $75 w/cart it’s a steal!
Fun challenge, good value
