Woodland Course
Carmel, IN, USA

Woodland Country Club is a distinguished example of midwestern parkland golf, its original bones laid down in the early 1950s. This Carmel, Indiana, layout, shaped by Bill Diddel, presents a classic, tree-lined experience. Fairways, while generous in spots, subtly reward strategic play – favoring a controlled fade into several key doglegs. A round here isn't about raw distance; it's about positioning and navigating the undulating greens, which demand a deft touch. Over the years, subtle refinements have maintained Woodland's challenge without sacrificing its inherent playability. While Woodland hasn't hosted a major professional event, it's a fixture on the Indiana amateur circuit and plays a pivotal role in the state's competitive golfing landscape. The course has been lauded for its balance of difficulty and fairness, making it enjoyable for players of all skill levels and never feeling overtly penal. Beyond the course, Woodland fosters a convivial atmosphere, particularly noted for its longstanding member traditions. The club’s renowned fried chicken, a culinary staple since its early days, has become as much a part of the Woodland experience as the meticulously manicured fairways, adding a unique flavor to the club's identity.

Was an Assistant Pro here for a few seasons. Always in fantastic shape. Some difficult holes to play conservative on and some score able holes to get after. Certainly a golf course where precision with approach shots and course management is paramount. Definitely a hidden gem of central Indiana!
