The course takes its name from nearby Torch Lake, one of northern Michigan's glacially-formed inland lakes known for their clarity and depth. A-Ga-Ming operates as a semi-private resort facility, with the Torch course serving alongside the resort's Sundance course as part of a thirty-six-hole complex.
