Sundance is one of two 18-hole courses at A-Ga-Ming Golf Resort, located in the rolling terrain of northwest lower Michigan near Elk Lake and Torch Lake. Designed by Michigan architect Jerry Matthews and opened in the mid-1990s, the course takes its name from the natural character of the property, which features open meadowlands interspersed with stands of hardwoods and conifers typical of the region. The layout occupies gently rolling ground with moderate elevation changes that provide variety without excessive walking. Matthews routed Sundance to emphasize playability across a range of skill levels while incorporating the natural landforms and native grasses that define the northern Michigan golf landscape. The course presents a mix of open and tree-lined holes, with fairways that encourage strategic positioning and greens that reward accurate approach play. Water features appear selectively throughout the round, adding visual interest and occasional hazard consideration without dominating the design. A-Ga-Ming operates as a public-access resort facility, drawing golfers from across Michigan and the Midwest who visit the Traverse City area for its concentration of golf courses and summer recreation. Sundance complements the resort's other course, Torch, offering visitors two distinct routing options on the same property. The course serves both resort guests and daily-fee players, fitting into the region's tradition of accessible, scenically appealing golf in a forested lakeland setting.
