High Pointe Course
Williamsburg, MI, USA

High Pointe Golf Club, set amid the rolling hills of northern Michigan near Williamsburg, is a testament to a singular vision. Carved from a landscape of dramatic elevation changes and dense hardwood forests, the course evokes a more forgiving, Americanized version of Scottish links design. Designed by Gary Koch, the layout presents generous fairways that belie strategic complexities. Favoring the bold player with a high ball flight, High Pointe rewards calculated risks and deft touch around the greens. Local lore whispers of Koch's original intent for the 18th green – a challenging, multi-tiered surface inspired by classic templates he admired in early golf architecture. While not on the national stage, High Pointe enjoys a dedicated following within the region, renowned for its challenging yet playable design and stunning vistas of Grand Traverse Bay. The club fosters a relaxed atmosphere, with a membership drawn to the area's natural beauty and the unpretentious camaraderie found within its gates.

Doak’s first course reincarnated. Incredible walk through the trees of Michigan . Great land. Great testament of Doak Design. Can’t wait to get back.
Fortunate enough to play this beautiful track back in July. An absolute beauty that will continue to become more astounding with each season. Rod did an awesome job celebrating Doak’s legacy. Can’t wait to see the new clubhouse when completed and I’m dying to stay in the lodge.

The journey to High Pointe Golf Club begins at Cherry Capital Airport in Traverse City, a compact regional hub roughly thirty minutes north by car. The drive south traces the eastern shore of Grand Traverse Bay before turning inland through rolling farmland and cherry orchards, the landscape gradually rising into the glacial moraines that define this corner of northern Michigan. As M-72 gives way to quieter township roads, the terrain grows more dramatic - dense hardwood forests punctuated by sudden elevation changes - until High Pointe's clubhouse emerges atop one of the region's highest natural points, a fitting arrival for a course carved into such commanding topography.
