Southern Highlands Golf Club

Southern Highlands Golf Club occupies rolling desert terrain in the master-planned community of Southern Highlands, approximately ten miles south of the Las Vegas Strip. Robert Trent Jones Sr. designed the course in the late 1990s, one of his final projects before his death in 2000. The layout represents Jones's mature design philosophy applied to the Mojave Desert landscape, incorporating his characteristic strategic bunkering, large greens, and emphasis on playability across multiple tee sets. The routing moves through natural elevation changes unusual for the Las Vegas valley, with the property's hills and arroyos providing both visual interest and strategic variety. Jones shaped the course to work with rather than against the desert topography, creating holes that play uphill, downhill, and across the contours. Native desert vegetation frames many holes, while the playing corridors feature maintained turf typical of private desert courses. Water features appear on several holes, integrated into the design as both hazards and visual elements in the arid setting. Southern Highlands operates as a private equity club serving the residential community. The course has hosted various regional amateur competitions and qualifiers, benefiting from its conditioning standards and the challenge presented by Jones's design across nearly 7,400 yards from the championship tees. The club represents one of several upscale golf communities developed in the Las Vegas area during the 1990s expansion period, when master-planned developments paired residential real estate with golf course amenities designed by prominent architects.
