Robert Trent Jones Sr. (1906–2000) ranks among golf's most prolific architects, having designed or redesigned more than 500 courses across 45 U.S. states and 35 countries. His six-decade career reshaped championship golf through strategic bunkering, demanding approaches, and an emphasis on testing the best players while remaining playable for higher handicaps. Jones received the Old Tom Morris Award in 1987 and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame that same year.
His portfolio spans landmark redesigns—including Oak Hill East, Baltustrol Lower, and Firestone North—and original designs such as Spyglass Hill, Peachtree, Hazeltine National, and Valderrama in Spain.
