Split Rock Country Club

Split Rock Country Club's South 9 forms part of a 27-hole facility located in the Pocono Mountains region of northeastern Pennsylvania. Bob Sterrett designed the course, which sits within a resort community near Lake Harmony at an elevation that brings cooler summer temperatures and a relatively short playing season compared to courses in the southeastern part of the state. The South 9 shares the mountainous, forested terrain characteristic of Pocono golf courses. Players encounter elevation changes, tree-lined fairways, and routing that works with the natural contours of the landscape. The design reflects the practical considerations of mountain golf in this region: managing slope, incorporating rock outcroppings where they occur, and creating playable corridors through wooded areas. Water features appear on several holes, typical of courses built in this lake-and-stream environment. Split Rock operates primarily as a resort amenity, serving guests of the surrounding residential and vacation community. The 27-hole configuration allows for varied combinations and accommodates peak-season play during summer months when the Poconos draw visitors from nearby metropolitan areas. The South 9 can be paired with either the North or West nines to create different 18-hole experiences, a common setup at resort facilities seeking operational flexibility.
