Quinta de Cima occupies gently rolling terrain in the eastern Algarve, a few kilometers inland from the coastal town of Vila Nova de Cacela. Designed by American architect Rocky Roquemore and opened in 2002, the course forms part of a paired resort development with its sister layout, Quinta da Ria, which sits closer to the Ria Formosa estuary. While Quinta da Ria plays through flatter marshland scenery, Quinta de Cima takes its name from its elevated position—"cima" meaning "top" or "above" in Portuguese—and offers a different character with more pronounced elevation changes and views across the surrounding countryside. The routing moves through umbrella pines, cork oaks, and Mediterranean vegetation typical of the region, with fairways that rise and fall across the property's natural contours. Water features appear on several holes, and the design incorporates strategic bunkering that rewards accurate placement over pure distance. The layout stretches to approximately 6,500 meters from the back tees and presents a variety of hole shapes and approach angles. The eastern Algarve remains less developed than areas around Faro and Albufeira to the west, giving Quinta de Cima a quieter setting within the broader Portuguese golf tourism landscape. The course serves primarily resort and visiting golfers, with the clubhouse facilities shared between the two Quinta layouts. Both courses have hosted regional amateur competitions and remain part of the Algarve's network of year-round golf destinations.
