Metedeconk National Golf Club

Metedeconk National Golf Club's Pines course occupies rolling terrain in the New Jersey Pinelands, approximately an hour from both New York City and Philadelphia. The club opened in 2000 with two eighteen-hole layouts designed by Roger Rulewich, who worked extensively with Robert Trent Jones Sr. before establishing his own practice. The Pines represents one of Rulewich's efforts to create championship-caliber golf in the sandy soils and pine forests characteristic of this region of central New Jersey. The routing moves through corridors of pitch pine and oak, with the sandy subsoil providing firm playing conditions and natural drainage. The design incorporates substantial elevation changes for the area, with holes playing across ridges and through lowland areas. Rulewich's work here reflects the Trent Jones influence in its strategic bunkering and green complexes that reward precise approach play, though the scale remains appropriate for member golf rather than tournament spectacle. Metedeconk National operates as a private club with two courses sharing the property, allowing members access to thirty-six holes in a relatively remote setting within the Pinelands ecosystem. The club's name derives from the Metedeconk River system that drains much of this part of Ocean County. The Pines and its companion Oaks course provide variety in a region where golf development accelerated during the 1990s and early 2000s, taking advantage of the favorable soils and available land in the pine barrens.
