Moray Golf Club

The New Course at Moray Golf Club in Lossiemouth was laid out by Old Tom Morris, the pioneering Scottish golf architect whose designs shaped the early development of links golf across Britain. While overshadowed by its companion Old Course at the club, the New represents Morris's characteristic approach to working with natural linksland, routing holes across undulating duneland along the Moray Firth coastline. The course occupies ground between the town and the sea, with the layout making use of the natural contours and native grasses typical of Scotland's northern links. Lossiemouth sits on the southern shore of the Moray Firth in northeast Scotland, a region known for producing firm, fast-running seaside golf. The New Course shares the club's coastal setting with views across the firth and benefits from the same maritime climate that keeps the turf playing firm through much of the season. The routing moves through more modest terrain than some of the dramatic duneland found on Scotland's west coast, but the holes reflect the honest, strategic design principles Morris employed throughout his career. Moray Golf Club maintains both courses for a membership that includes Royal Air Force personnel from the nearby base at RAF Lossiemouth, giving the club a distinctive community character. The New Course provides an accessible complement to the Old, offering visitors a chance to experience Morris's design work in a less pressured environment while still playing genuine Scottish links golf along the Moray coast.
