Moon Township, PA, USA

Moon Golf Club sits in Moon Township, a suburban community northwest of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Designed by Harold Heinlein and opened in the mid-twentieth century, the course reflects the regional style of accessible daily-fee and municipal golf that emerged across western Pennsylvania during the post-war expansion of the game. The layout occupies rolling terrain characteristic of the area's topography, with elevation changes and tree-lined corridors typical of parkland courses in the region. The course serves the local golfing community in the Pittsburgh metropolitan area, providing a straightforward test for recreational players. Moon Township's proximity to Pittsburgh International Airport and major transportation corridors places the course within easy reach of both residents and visitors to the region. The routing works through mature hardwood stands and open fairway corridors, with greens that reflect the design sensibilities of mid-century American golf architecture. As a community-oriented facility, Moon Golf Club functions as a neighborhood course where local golfers can play regularly without the formality or expense of private club membership. The layout offers a traditional walking-friendly experience on terrain that rewards accurate shot-making while remaining playable for golfers of varying skill levels. What do you say about Moon? It’s a disaster, but it’s OUR disaster. It’s quirky to the point of being an inside joke, a nightmare of overlapping holes and short drives that back up pace. But they get it, it’s for the community, and it’s FUN when you catch it on the right day and the right time. It’s a bad golf course I’ve had a lot of great days at.
