The Magnolia Course at Highland Oaks is one of two eighteen-hole layouts that comprise this Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail site in Dothan, located in southeastern Alabama's Wiregrass region. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. with Roger Rulewich and opened in the late 1990s as part of Alabama's ambitious public golf initiative, the course reflects the Trail's founding mission to provide championship-caliber golf at accessible rates throughout the state. The routing takes advantage of the area's rolling terrain and incorporates the mature pine and hardwood forests characteristic of this part of Alabama. Jones's design philosophy is evident in the strategic bunkering, large undulating greens, and multiple tee boxes that allow the course to accommodate players of varying abilities. Water features come into play on several holes, adding both visual interest and strategic complexity to the layout. Highland Oaks serves as the southernmost anchor of the RTJ Golf Trail, drawing golfers from the Florida Panhanola and southern Georgia as well as Alabama. The facility includes practice areas and a clubhouse that supports both daily-fee play and organized events. Like other Trail properties, Magnolia offers a well-maintained course experience at rates considerably below what comparable championship layouts typically command, making it representative of the Trail's broader economic development and recreational access goals for the state.
