Windswept Dunes Course
Freeport, FL, USA

Windswept Dunes Country Club, nestled near the emerald waters of Florida's panhandle, offers a challenging and scenic layout that bucks the coastal trend towards flat terrain. Designed in the early 2000s, this relatively young course distinguishes itself with significant elevation changes – a rarity for the region. The gently rolling landscape, woven with native pines and strategically placed bunkers, rewards strategic play over brute force. Architect Gene Bates crafted a course with generous fairways that belie the challenges that await around the greens. Approach shots demand careful club selection, as undulating putting surfaces and subtle breaks test even the most seasoned golfer. Its design may not be widely celebrated in national rankings, but the course provides a stern yet enjoyable test for golfers of all skill levels. Beyond the course, Windswept Dunes cultivates a welcoming atmosphere for its members and guests. Known locally for its relaxed vibe and scenic views from the clubhouse, the club fosters a strong sense of community. While it may not host major championships, the club is dedicated to its local presence, hosting regular member tournaments and social events that promote a friendly and supportive golfing environment. The clubhouse also serves up delicious food, particularly its fried seafood baskets.

The length here is pretty wild. Fun track. Pretty nature around every hole. Greens were frustrating. Inconsistent. Very fair priced. Worth the trek.
Arguably my favorite track I’ve played to date! Must play if you can get out! Friendly staff, great restaurant burger was 9.5/10
One of the best hidden gems within 45 minutes of 30a / Destin area. Used to be the longest course in Florida tipping out at 7,800 yards (at sea level). Course is pretty wide open and features massive greens. Typically in good shape and a really fun stress free round with the exception of a few holes. #2 is a cool par 3 over the water #10 is a sneaky tough par 4. Love the par 5’s.
One of my favorite courses in the Destin area. Drive about 25 minutes north and you find some sandy dunes wrapped around a golf course. It can play all the way to 7800 yards if you want to put yourself through the pain, but it’s a solid track and one of the more enjoyable ones in the Florida Panhandle
