Archerfield Golf Club

Fidra is one of two championship courses at Archerfield Golf Club, located on the East Lothian coast near the village of Dirleton, approximately twenty miles east of Edinburgh. Designed by DJ Russell and opened in 2004, the course occupies former farmland within the historic Archerfield estate, which dates to the seventeenth century. The layout takes its name from Fidra Island, visible offshore in the Firth of Forth, and forms part of Scotland's Golf Coast alongside neighboring venues like Muirfield and North Berwick. The course plays across gently rolling terrain with views toward the Firth of Forth and the Bass Rock. The routing incorporates natural features of the coastal landscape, though the course sits inland from the immediate shoreline. Several holes offer elevated tee shots and approach play to greens set among dunes-style mounding and bunkering. The design emphasizes strategic options from the tee and around the greens, with fairway widths and green complexes that reward precision. Archerfield operates as a private members' club with visitor access through the club or affiliated arrangements. The estate includes the second course, Dirleton, also designed by Russell, along with a clubhouse set within restored historic buildings. The property's setting and facilities cater to a membership drawn from Edinburgh and beyond, with dining and lodging available on site. Fidra serves as the longer and more championship-oriented of the two courses at the club.
