Lake Carlsbad Golf Club's Executive Course is a nine-hole layout in Carlsbad, New Mexico, designed by William Keith. The course serves as a shorter complement to the club's regulation eighteen-hole course, providing an accessible option for golfers seeking a quicker round or working on specific aspects of their game. Executive courses typically feature a mix of par threes and short par fours, emphasizing approach shots and short game skills. The course occupies terrain characteristic of southeastern New Mexico, where the high desert landscape meets the Pecos River valley. Carlsbad sits at approximately 3,300 feet elevation in an arid climate, and courses in the area generally play firm and fast with minimal tree cover. The proximity to Lake Carlsbad, a reservoir on the Pecos River, likely influences the routing and provides some visual relief from the surrounding desert environment. Executive courses of this type often appeal to beginners, juniors, and players with limited time, while also offering experienced golfers a venue for practice rounds or casual play. The layout allows for efficient use of land while maintaining playability across different skill levels. Lake Carlsbad Golf Club operates as a municipal facility, making it part of the city's public recreation infrastructure and contributing to golf accessibility in this corner of New Mexico's oil and ranching country.
