Eden at St Andrews Links, overlooking the West Sands, presents a sporting proposition born of classic linksland. Designed by Harry Colt in 1914, its rolling fairways and strategic bunkering epitomize early 20th-century golf architecture where imagination, creativity, and inventiveness were the highest virtue. The Eden bears the soul of strategy. Playing firm and fast thanks to its location hard by the North Sea, the course demands a keen understanding of ground contours and wind direction. While generous off the tee, wayward approaches are punished severely by deep bunkers, gorse, and undulating green complexes that reward the thoughtfully considered shot. Many of the greens slope severely from back to front, a common theme that punishes those who go long on the approach. It's a fair test, yet offers respite where needed and opportunity to make birdies as well. The Eden has hosted numerous R&A championships, including the St Andrews Links Trophy, a leading amateur stroke play event. While perhaps not as globally celebrated as its neighbors on the Links Trust property, it holds a special place in the hearts of local golfers.
