Woburn Golf Club

The Duchess Course at Woburn Golf Club opened in 2000, designed by Peter Alliss and Clive Clark on land that forms part of the Duke of Bedford's historic Woburn Abbey estate. This parkland layout was created to complement Woburn's two existing championship courses, the Duke's and the Marquess, and provides a third eighteen holes within the estate's mature woodland setting. The course takes its name from the Duchess of Bedford, continuing the club's tradition of naming its courses after members of the Russell family. The routing moves through dense stands of pine, oak, and birch, with fairways carved from the sandy, well-draining soil characteristic of this part of Buckinghamshire. The design emphasizes strategic shot-making rather than extreme length, with water hazards featuring on several holes and bunkering that rewards accurate placement. The undulating terrain creates natural elevation changes throughout the round, and the tree-lined corridors demand precision from the tee while offering a secluded, tranquil playing experience. Woburn Golf Club maintains a reputation for excellent course conditioning across all three layouts, and the Duchess benefits from the same maintenance standards and attention to detail.
