The routing moves through varied terrain, with several holes playing along ridgelines that offer views across the Dublin landscape. Water features come into play on multiple holes, and the designers incorporated the existing topography to create strategic interest without excessive earthmoving. The course measures over 6,800 yards from the championship tees and presents a test suitable for competitive play while remaining accessible from forward positions. Castleknock has hosted numerous national and regional amateur competitions and serves as a venue for Irish golf events. The club operates as a members' facility with visitor access available, and the clubhouse provides dining and social amenities in keeping with Irish golf club traditions.
