Luttrellstown Castle Resort's golf course occupies parkland estate grounds in Castleknock, on the western outskirts of Dublin. The course was designed by Donald Steel and opened in the early 1990s, with later refinements by Tom MacKenzie. Steel, known for his work on traditional British and Irish layouts, routed the eighteen holes through mature woodland and along the River Liffey, which borders portions of the property and comes into play on several holes. The course unfolds across gently rolling terrain characteristic of Dublin's inland estates, with tree-lined fairways and strategic bunkering that rewards accurate positioning. The routing takes advantage of the natural landscape features, including established oak and beech trees that frame many holes. The Liffey's presence adds both scenic quality and strategic consequence, particularly on holes where the river runs close to greens or fairways. Luttrellstown Castle itself dates to the fifteenth century and has been associated with various prominent Irish families over the centuries. The estate's conversion to a resort brought golf to grounds that had long served as private parkland. The course serves resort guests and members, offering a parkland experience within easy reach of Dublin's city center while maintaining the seclusion of a historic country estate setting.
