The Berkshire Golf Club sits on heathland terrain near Ascot in Berkshire, approximately thirty miles west of London. Herbert Fowler designed both the Blue and Red courses here in the 1920s, carving them through sandy soil, heather, pine, and silver birch that characterize the inland heath country of southern England. The property occupies elevated ground with natural drainage and firm turf conditions that allow year-round play. Fowler, who also designed Walton Heath and Eastward Ho!, routed the Blue course to take advantage of the rolling topography and natural features of the site. The Blue course measures over 6,300 yards from the back tees and plays as a par 71. The routing moves through corridors of mature trees with heather lining the fairways, requiring accurate driving and strategic positioning. Several holes feature elevated tees and greens that emphasize the natural contours of the land. The bunkering follows Fowler's characteristic style—deep, revetted hazards placed to challenge both tee shots and approaches. The greens are typically firm and subtly contoured, rewarding precise iron play. The Berkshire has hosted numerous amateur championships and professional events over the decades, including regional qualifiers and national tournaments. The club maintains a traditional private membership and operates both courses throughout the year. The clubhouse overlooks the courses and provides views across the heathland landscape toward Windsor Great Park in the distance.
