Despite its reputation as the easier option, Ashludie presents genuine links characteristics with firm turf, natural undulations, and exposure to coastal winds that can significantly alter playing conditions. The layout runs primarily inland from the shoreline, with several holes playing parallel to the beach and others turning back through gently rolling terrain. Braid's routing takes advantage of the natural contours while keeping the design straightforward, with fewer of the severe bunkers and dramatic elevation changes found on neighboring championship courses. The greens are typically firm and receptive to the ground game, rewarding players who embrace traditional links strategy. Monifieth Golf Links has served as a qualifying venue for The Open Championship when the tournament visits nearby Carnoustie, giving Ashludie occasional exposure to professional competition. The club maintains a welcoming, municipal character—both courses are publicly owned and operated by Angus Council—making them among the more affordable and accessible links experiences in Scotland. The clubhouse overlooks both courses and the Firth of Tay, providing a traditional setting for post-round gatherings in one of Scottish golf's historic coastal communities.
