Westwood Plateau Golf & Country Club

Westwood Plateau Golf & Country Club sits on the elevated terrain of Coquitlam's Westwood Plateau development, roughly 30 kilometers east of Vancouver. Dr. Michael Hurdzan designed the course in the mid-1990s as part of a master-planned residential community, routing the layout through the natural topography of British Columbia's coastal forest landscape. The property's elevation provides views across the Fraser Valley toward surrounding mountain ranges, and the design works with significant changes in grade throughout the round. Hurdzan's routing takes advantage of the site's natural contours and mature stands of Douglas fir and cedar. The course features elevation changes that require thoughtful club selection, with several holes playing uphill or downhill and others moving through relatively level corridors. Water comes into play on multiple holes, and the bunkering reflects Hurdzan's characteristic attention to strategic positioning rather than purely aesthetic placement. The greens offer varied shapes and internal movement, demanding accurate approach play. The club serves both its residential membership and outside play, functioning as a semi-private facility. Westwood Plateau has hosted regional amateur competitions and qualifiers over the years, serving the competitive golf community in the Greater Vancouver area. The course represents one of several layouts built during British Columbia's golf development boom of the 1990s, when the province's population growth and favorable climate supported expansion of golf facilities in suburban markets around Vancouver.
