Wayzata Country Club sits on the shores of Lake Minnetonka in the affluent western suburb of Wayzata, approximately fifteen miles west of downtown Minneapolis. The club was founded in 1898, making it one of Minnesota's oldest private clubs. The current course reflects work by two architects separated by decades: Robert B. Harris, a regional designer active in the early-to-mid twentieth century who shaped many Upper Midwest layouts, and John Fought, the Oregon-based architect and former U.S. Amateur champion who has renovated and restored numerous classic American courses since the 1980s. The routing takes advantage of the rolling terrain characteristic of Minnesota's glacial lake country, with elevation changes that are significant by regional standards. Several holes play along or near the Lake Minnetonka shoreline, providing both scenic backdrop and strategic interest where water comes into play. The property features mature hardwood trees that frame fairways and define playing corridors, typical of parkland courses in the Upper Midwest. Wayzata Country Club maintains a traditional private club culture and has long been a fixture in Minneapolis social and golf circles. The membership includes prominent business and civic leaders from the Twin Cities area. The club has hosted various regional amateur competitions over its history, serving as a venue for Minnesota Golf Association championships and other state-level events.
