The Ledges Golf Club sits in Roscoe, a small community in northern Illinois near the Wisconsin border, where the landscape transitions from the flat prairie typical of much of Illinois to more varied terrain. Designed by Larry Packard and opened in the late 1980s, the course takes its name from the natural limestone outcroppings and ledges that define much of the property. The course plays across rolling terrain with significant elevation changes uncommon in this part of Illinois. The limestone formations appear throughout the round, framing fairways and greens and creating natural hazards that give the layout a distinctive character. Water comes into play on several holes, and mature tree plantings have developed over the decades to add definition and strategic interest to the routing. The Ledges operates as a public facility, serving golfers from the Rockford metropolitan area and drawing visitors from southern Wisconsin. The course provides a contrast to the flatter parkland layouts common in the region, offering a more rugged playing experience shaped by its underlying geology.
