The Senator Course at Capitol Hill is one of three championship layouts on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail property in Prattville, Alabama. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. with associate Roger Rulewich and opened in 1999, it forms part of Alabama's ambitious public golf initiative that brought high-quality daily-fee golf to the state. The course sits on rolling terrain north of Montgomery and shares the expansive Capitol Hill facility with the Judge and Legislator courses. The Senator plays as the longest of the three courses at Capitol Hill, stretching well over 7,700 yards from the championship tees. Jones employed his characteristic design philosophy here: large, undulating greens protected by substantial bunkering, strategic water hazards, and generous fairway corridors that reward proper angles of approach. The routing moves through stands of pine and hardwood, with elevation changes that provide variety and visual interest throughout the round. Multiple tee boxes on each hole make the course accessible to players of varying abilities, though the length and green complexes demand solid ball-striking from the back tees. Capitol Hill has hosted numerous amateur and collegiate championships, taking advantage of its three courses to accommodate large tournament fields. The facility includes extensive practice areas and a clubhouse that serves all three layouts. The Senator, along with its companion courses, represents the RTJ Trail's mission to provide championship-caliber public golf at accessible rates, drawing players from throughout the Southeast.
