Saddle Creek Golf Resort

Saddle Creek occupies rolling foothill terrain in Copperopolis, a small community in the Sierra Nevada foothills of Calaveras County, roughly an hour southeast of Stockton. The course was designed by Carter Morrish and Tad Buchanan and opened as part of a residential golf resort development. Morrish, who worked extensively with Jack Nicklaus before establishing his own practice, brought his experience with naturalistic routing to this property, while Buchanan contributed local design expertise to the collaboration. The layout moves across varied topography characteristic of the Gold Country region, with elevation changes, native oak woodlands, and exposed rock outcroppings shaping the playing corridors. The design incorporates the natural contours of the land, and several holes offer views across the surrounding foothills. Water features appear on multiple holes, integrated into the strategic framework of the routing. Saddle Creek functions as the centerpiece of a resort community that includes lodging, homesites, and recreational amenities beyond golf. The facility serves both resort guests and outside play, typical of destination courses in California's interior regions that draw golfers from the Central Valley and Bay Area seeking accessible mountain golf experiences.
