Els incorporated wide fairways and large, undulating greens characteristic of his design philosophy, which tends to favor strategic options over penal architecture. The bunkering is substantial, with deep pot bunkers and sprawling waste areas that frame landing zones and green complexes. The closing stretch features holes that engage the coastal setting more directly, where wind direction and strength become significant factors in club selection and shot shaping. The facility serves as the centerpiece of the Desaru Coast resort development, which includes hotels, residential properties, and other recreational amenities. The course has hosted professional events on the Asian Tour, bringing competitive golf to the region and raising the profile of Desaru as a golf destination in Southeast Asia. The clubhouse offers dining and practice facilities that support both resort guests and members.
