Rattlewood, etched into the rolling Maryland countryside near Mt. It is a playable yet challenging course that offers a great value. Designed in the modern era, Rattlewood presents a parkland aesthetic with tree-lined fairways, demanding strategic shot placement rather than brute strength. While not favoring any particular shot shape, accuracy is rewarded on approaches to well-guarded greens. The course is maintained well, and allows for a true roll of the ball, but is not a particularly notable championship course. Originally crafted by Edmund B. Ault, Jr., Rattlewood has remained largely untouched, preserving the integrity of its original design. The design is open enough to not lose many balls for higher handicaps, yet strategically challenging enough for the more seasoned player. While Rattlewood may not boast a storied history of hosting major championships, it does cultivate a loyal membership known for their camaraderie. Stories abound of post-round matches fueled by friendly rivalries and cold beverages on the clubhouse patio, where the air is thick with the aroma of their popular crab dip, a local favorite.
