The Players Course at Foxfire Golf Club opened in 1971 as the original layout at this central Ohio facility, designed by Jack Kidwell and Dr. Michael Hurdzan early in Hurdzan's distinguished career. Located in Lockbourne, approximately fifteen miles south of Columbus, the course occupies gently rolling farmland characteristic of the region's glaciated till plains. The design reflects the transitional period of American golf architecture in the early 1970s, when designers were beginning to incorporate more strategic elements while working within the constraints of modest earthmoving budgets. The routing takes advantage of the property's natural contours and mature tree lines, with fairways that bend around established woodlots and several holes playing across modest elevation changes. Water features come into play on multiple holes, typical of courses built during this era when irrigation ponds were integrated into the design. The layout measures over 7,000 yards from the back tees, providing a substantial test for accomplished players while offering forward tee options for recreational golfers. Foxfire expanded to 36 holes with the addition of the Resort Course in 1972, also designed by Kidwell and Hurdzan. The Players Course serves as the club's championship layout and has hosted various regional amateur competitions over the decades. The facility operates as a public-access course, serving both the local Columbus-area golf community and visitors to central Ohio.
