The Landings Club

The Plantation Course at The Landings Club is one of six eighteen-hole layouts that comprise this large residential golf community on Skidaway Island, just south of Savannah. Designed by Willard C. Byrd and opened in the early 1970s, it was among the first courses built as The Landings developed into one of the Southeast's more extensive private club operations. Byrd, a Georgia-based architect known for his work throughout the region, routed the course through the island's characteristic Lowcountry terrain of live oaks, Spanish moss, and tidal marshland. The layout takes advantage of the property's natural features, with several holes playing along or near salt marsh edges that define the eastern edge of Skidaway Island. The routing incorporates elevation changes modest by coastal standards, and the design reflects the strategic principles common to Byrd's work from that era—generous fairways, well-placed bunkering, and greens that reward accurate approach play. Water hazards, both natural tidal creeks and constructed ponds, come into play on a number of holes. The Landings Club operates as a private equity club serving the residential community, with membership drawn primarily from residents of the island. The club's multiple courses allow for varied playing conditions and pace, and the Plantation Course remains a core part of the rotation. The setting offers the quiet, tree-lined character typical of Georgia's coastal islands, with views across marsh grasses toward the Intracoastal Waterway.
