The routing incorporates numerous lakes and wetland areas that serve both drainage and strategic purposes, with water coming into play on more than half the holes. Prevailing Gulf winds add variability to club selection and shot shaping throughout the round. The design emphasizes width off the tee in many places, but approach shots demand precision given the water hazards and the modest size of several greens. Native grasses and palms frame many holes, reinforcing the subtropical coastal setting. Moody Gardens serves both resort guests and local membership, functioning as a tournament venue for regional amateur events and corporate outings.
