Fort Moore Golf Club

Fort Moore Golf Club's Marshall and Patton courses occupy terrain on the military installation formerly known as Fort Benning, located along the Chattahoochee River valley in west-central Georgia near Columbus. Robert Trent Jones Sr. designed both eighteen-hole layouts in the mid-1950s during his prolific period of military course construction across the United States. The courses serve the Fort Moore community—one of the Army's largest installations and home to the Maneuver Center of Excellence—providing golf for active-duty personnel, retirees, and their families. Jones shaped the routing across rolling piedmont topography characteristic of this region, incorporating elevation changes and natural corridors through Georgia pine and hardwood forest. His design approach here reflects the strategic principles he applied to military courses of that era: generous fairways that accommodate players of varying skill levels, large greens with subtle contours, and hazards positioned to reward thoughtful play rather than punish recreational golfers. The courses feature the architect's trademark bunkering style and make use of the property's natural drainage patterns. The Marshall and Patton names honor two of the most prominent American military leaders of the twentieth century. The facility operates as a semi-private club, with access primarily for military-affiliated members and their guests. The courses provide a traditional parkland golf experience within the context of military life, maintaining the functional design standards Jones established for installations where golf serves both recreation and morale purposes.
