Mariah Hills Course
Dodge City, KS, USA

Mariah Hills Golf Club sits on the high plains near Dodge City in southwestern Kansas, a region known for its wide-open landscapes and persistent winds. Designed by Frank Hummel, the course occupies rolling terrain that offers more natural contour than much of the surrounding farmland. The layout takes advantage of the property's elevation changes and native grasses, creating a prairie golf experience shaped by the elements. The design reflects the straightforward, playable character typical of many Kansas courses from Hummel's era, with routing that works with the land's natural movement rather than imposing dramatic features. Wind is a constant factor here, often determining club selection and strategy more than yardage alone. The course serves both local members and visitors exploring golf in this historic cattle town region. Mariah Hills functions as a community club in an area where golf courses are relatively sparse, providing a recreational and social hub for Dodge City and the surrounding counties. The facility maintains the unpretentious character common to Great Plains golf clubs, where the focus remains on playable conditions and hospitality rather than elaborate amenities. For golfers traveling through western Kansas, it offers a chance to experience prairie golf in its authentic form, where the landscape and weather define the round as much as the design itself.
Bent-grass hybrid on tees and fairways is borderline immaculate. Greens are above average for a public. Been faster in years past but we’ve had horrible growing weather this season and I don’t fault them. They still roll great. Bunkers are playable but not aesthetically pleasing - They do protect the course well. Wind is always blowing. The trees grow sideways. Such a unique course that needs to be on a western Kansas must play list. Hosts a number of respectable tournaments so not an under the radar course if you are from the area. Couple quirky holes if you’re playing your own ball but not unfair. Delicious steakhouse on property.
