Flint Hills National occupies rolling prairie terrain in Andover, a suburb southeast of Wichita, Kansas. Designed by Tom Fazio and opened in 2000, the course takes its name from the Flint Hills region that extends across east-central Kansas, an area characterized by native tallgrass prairie and limestone-based topography. Fazio routed the course across land that features natural elevation changes and integrated water features, creating a layout that contrasts with the flatter agricultural landscapes common in much of Kansas. The design incorporates Fazio's signature approach of framing holes with strategic bunkering, shaping greens with multiple tiers and contours, and using water as both a visual and strategic element on several holes. The course plays through corridors defined by native grasses and specimen trees, with views extending across the surrounding prairie landscape. The property's natural undulation provides variety in stance and shot-making demands throughout the round. Flint Hills National operates as a private club and has hosted regional amateur competitions, serving the Wichita metropolitan golf community. The course represents one of the few Fazio designs in Kansas and stands as a notable example of contemporary golf architecture in the Great Plains region. The club offers traditional country club amenities alongside the golf course, maintaining a membership base drawn primarily from the Wichita area.
