Foxhills Golf Club

The Manor Course at Foxhills Golf Club in Ottershaw, Surrey, was designed by Bernard Hunt, the former Ryder Cup player and captain who turned to course architecture after his competitive career. Hunt, who represented Great Britain & Ireland in eight Ryder Cups between 1953 and 1969, brought his playing experience to bear on the layout, which opened in the 1970s as part of Foxhills' development into a multi-course golf and leisure destination. The course occupies gently rolling Surrey heathland terrain, characterized by mature woodland corridors and sandy subsoil typical of the region's golf landscape. The Manor plays through a mix of tree-lined fairways and more open sections, with strategic bunkering and water hazards that require thoughtful club selection and course management. The routing takes advantage of the property's natural elevation changes, offering variety in hole length and playing angles. As the original championship layout at Foxhills, the Manor Course has hosted regional amateur competitions and serves as the primary tournament venue when the club holds competitive events. Foxhills operates as a resort-style facility with extensive practice amenities, a second course (the Longcross), and leisure facilities that include accommodation and dining. The club attracts both members and visiting golfers, with the Manor Course representing the more traditional parkland experience of the two layouts. The setting remains relatively secluded despite proximity to London, with the surrounding woodland providing definition and privacy throughout the round.
