Donald Steel

Donald Steel is a distinguished British golf course architect whose career spans several decades of design work primarily across the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Europe. Educated at Fettes College and Christ's College, Cambridge, Steel began his professional life as golf correspondent for the Sunday Telegraph from 1961 to 1989, and has contributed to Country Life since 1983. His dual expertise as journalist and designer has informed a thoughtful approach to course architecture.

His portfolio includes significant restoration and design work at classic British links venues. Steel contributed to Royal Cinque Ports and Formby, both highly regarded courses in England, and handled projects at Wallasey and other traditional clubs. In Scotland, he designed the Jubilee and Strathtyrum courses at St Andrews Links.
