Country Club of Little Rock

The Country Club of Little Rock traces its origins to 1902, making it one of the oldest private clubs in Arkansas. The course has evolved through the hands of several notable architects over more than a century. Tom Bendelow provided early design work in the 1920s, followed by contributions from Bill Diddel and the firm of Finger Dye Spann in subsequent decades. Herman Hackbarth also shaped the layout during the mid-twentieth century. Most recently, Keith Foster completed a significant restoration and renovation that sought to honor the course's historical character while updating it for contemporary play. The routing occupies rolling terrain in west Little Rock, with mature hardwoods and strategic bunkering defining the playing corridors. The layout presents a classic parkland character, with elevation changes that add variety to approach shots and create natural amphitheater settings around several greens. Foster's work emphasized restoring green contours and bunker styles consistent with the golden age principles evident in the earlier designs, while also improving drainage and turf conditions. The club has long served as a center of golf in the state capital, hosting numerous regional amateur championships and state-level competitions. Its membership includes business and civic leaders from the Little Rock area, and the club maintains traditions of Southern hospitality in both its golf operations and dining facilities. The course provides a blend of historical continuity and modern playability that reflects its layered design heritage.
