The Lakeside Course at Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta opened in 1991 as the club's original championship layout, designed by Arthur Hills. Located in the northern Atlanta suburbs, the course occupies rolling terrain characteristic of Georgia's piedmont region, with significant elevation changes and mature hardwood corridors framing the holes. Hills routed the course to take advantage of natural contours and incorporated water features throughout, including the namesake lake that comes into play on several holes. The layout measures over 7,000 yards from the championship tees and presents a traditional parkland test with tree-lined fairways, strategically placed bunkers, and undulating greens. The course demands accuracy off the tee, as the corridors tighten in places and penalty areas guard many landing zones. Several holes play along or across water, requiring careful club selection and course management. The greens feature subtle breaks and can be challenging to read, particularly on approach shots that must carry hazards. Golf Club of Georgia added a second course, the Creekside, in 1995, also designed by Hills. The Lakeside Course has hosted various regional amateur championships and collegiate events over the years, benefiting from its proximity to Atlanta and the quality of its conditioning. The club operates as a private facility and maintains both courses to tournament standards, with Lakeside generally regarded as the more demanding of the two layouts.
