Jacks Point Golf Club

Jacks Point occupies a dramatic site on the eastern shore of Lake Wakatipu, roughly fifteen minutes from central Queenstown. Designed by New Zealand architect John Darby and opened in 2004, the course threads through a landscape of tussock grassland, rocky outcrops, and native scrub, with the Remarkables mountain range forming a constant backdrop across the lake. The property's natural contours and geological features—including exposed schist formations and glacial remnants—shape much of the routing, and Darby preserved large sections of raw, unmanicured terrain between fairways to maintain the site's wild character. The layout measures over 7,000 yards from the tips and plays as a par 72, with holes routed across varied elevations and terrain types. Several holes run along the lakeshore, offering direct views across the water, while others climb into higher ground where wind and exposure become significant factors. The course incorporates wide fairways in places and tighter, more strategic corridors elsewhere, with bunkering that often mirrors the natural rock formations. Greens tend to be generous in size but feature considerable internal movement. Jacks Point operates as a private club with limited public access through resort arrangements and tee-time availability for visitors. It has appeared on various international rankings and is frequently cited for its setting and integration with the surrounding landscape. The course shares its peninsula with residential development, though the routing maintains open sightlines toward the lake and mountains throughout much of the round.
