Inverness Club Course
Toledo, OH, USA

Inverness Club stands as a monument to championship golf, forged from the vision of a group of Toledo businessmen at the dawn of the 20th century. The course, defined by its classic parkland setting, unfurls across gently rolling terrain, marked by mature trees and strategic bunkering. It isn't overly long, but penal rough and undulating greens reward precise approaches and punish the wayward. A slight draw off the tee and a deft touch around the greens will do well here. Designed originally by Willie Park Jr. and later refined by A.W. Tillinghast and Dick Wilson, Inverness has hosted a remarkable six major championships. Four U.S. Opens (most recently in 1979), two PGA Championships (1986 and 1993), and the 1920 U.S. Amateur and 2003 Senior Open mark the course as a true test for the game's best. Located in a largely residential area of west Toledo, Inverness is known for its tightly knit membership and commitment to preserving the traditions of the game. While perhaps not as widely lauded on a global stage as some of its championship-hosting peers, it remains a regionally respected and historically significant venue. It is further enhanced by the lore of Bob Tway's miraculous bunker shot on the 72nd hole to defeat Greg Norman in the 1986 PGA Championship. That moment remains etched in the course's identity, a testament to the drama and history woven into the fabric of Inverness Club.
